The Irish Texts Society (Irish: ''Cumann na Scríbheann nGaedhilge'') was founded in 1898 to promote the study of Irish literature. It is a text publication society, issuing annotated editions of texts in Irish with English translations and related commentaries. When the organisation was created on 26 April 1898 in London when Douglas Hyde was President and Frederick York Powell was chairperson and Norma Borthwick and Eleanor Hull were the secretaries.〔(The Origins of the Irish Texts Society ), HistoryIreland.com, retrieved 8 July 2015〕 As of 2009, the ITS has published sixty-three items in its main series and twenty items in its subsidiary series.〔http://www.irishtextssociety.org/subsid.htm〕 Other publications include Patrick S.
